Em + Kate Design was founded by two friends and neighbors, Emily Jonas and Katie Morgan, who began collaborating while remodeling their own homes. We quickly found that, during the remodel and design process, two heads are better than one. After launching Em + Kate Design several years ago, we have helped clients in Lamorinda and Northern California elevate their homes to their greatest potential.

Devastatingly, in August of 2022 Katie Morgan passed away from metastatic melanoma - after a truly heroic 14 month fight to beat the disease. Understandably, the business couldn’t continue without the duo of Em + Kate and in December the corporation was dissolved. Today, this site remains as a memorial of the thriving design business that began with the beautiful friendship of two close friends. The contact form will reach Emily, if you are looking for design support - if she is unable to work on your project, she will assist you in finding someone else through our referral partners.

In the wise words of Katie herself, I leave you with her brilliant advice on homes, on dying and most of all on living “… dance on tables, and on kitchen islands, and in the middle of the street.  To say, yes, we will have cocktails before dinner.  And yes, we should just get the bottle.”

Live fully.

After a lot of reflection, Emily has finally begun to heed Katie’s advice and go at it on her own. You can find her at www.EmilyJonasDesign.com trying her best to do honor to Katie’s legacy through continued work with a new heartfelt mission.

Our Design Philosophy (or, why hire a designer):

Consistency: A designer is there to create a cohesive look for your home. We come in - with fresh eyes and without an emotional attachment to certain furnishings - to name the style for your home that will make you most calm and comfortable in your space. We then get to work evaluating your existing pieces and sourcing new elements that will serve that look.

Collection: The best-designed rooms incorporate elements from many different styles and retailers as well as pieces from your past. A memento from your honeymoon, a sleek modern lamp and a traditional English sofa can all live together in one place when put together with an expert eye. The effect is that the room looks and feels personal, curated and effortless.

Completion: We all want our homes to feel "done," however, it takes a considerable amount of time and desire to meticulously source and purchase pieces for your home. With the rise of online retailers, the sheer number of choices available is overwhelming. We save you time, we help eliminate decision fatigue, and we work towards completing your space so that you can stop shopping and start enjoying your home.

It’s your home + inspired.
